FISH Prenatal Aneuscreen
What is Prenatal Aneuscreen FISH Testing? FISH is an acronym for Fluorescence In-Situ Hybridisation. FISH is a molecular DNA test using DNA probes that fluoresce and bind to specific chromosomes in the fetal cells from your amniocentesis or chorionic villi sample. It is a rapid test with results available within two working days.
What is detected? It detects the most common numerical chromosome abnormalities that may occur involving chromosomes X, Y, 13, 18 and 21. These account for 65% of abnormalities found during prenatal testing.
What is not detected? FISH testing will not detect chromosome structural abnormalities, mosaicism or numerical chromosome abnormalities not involving X, Y, 13, 18 and 21.
What are the benefits of FISH Testing? FISH testing provides a quick screening result within two working days for the most commonly occurring numerical abnormalities mentioned above.
When will I get my results? You will receive your results in 2 working days from your lead maternity caregiver or consultant.
